Semillon
This Semillon hails from 3.82 acres of 1886-planted, dry-farmed, head-trained vines at Monte Rosso Vineyard, set at about 1,000 ft elevation. These are the world’s second-oldest Semillon vines—just 20 years younger than Hunter Valley’s oldest. Unique and expressive, the vineyard’s interplanted Palomino, Burger, Sylvaner, Lenoir, and Pinot St. George add extra complexity.
Grenache
Introduced in 2017—with more planted in 2018—Monte Rosso now has 3.96 acres of Grenache in two blocks (head-trained and VSP). Studied in the Moon Mountain District and added to complement our renowned Syrah, the volcanic soils lend this Grenache layers of red fruit, nutmeg, blackberry, and a hint of cinnamon. The result is a fresh, easy-drinking, one-of-a-kind wine.
Cabernet Franc
This wine comes from a 4.32-acre Cabernet Franc block at 1,000 ft. Over four years, farming was intensified to replicate an older dry-farmed block, known for concentrated flavors with less herbaceousness. The result is a wine reminiscent of a rainforest—imagine the cool, dewy essence of a pine-filled forest floor. It's a unique Cabernet Franc expression that minimizes green notes, th
Zinfandel
Crafted from blocks that include original 1893 plantings and nine trellis systems, this wine’s complexity reflects its varied vineyard sites. At ~800 ft, soft tannins emerge; at 1,000 ft, dark chocolate and coffee appear; and at 1,300 ft, spices, blackberry, tobacco, and a racy raspberry finish shine—balanced by tannin and acidity.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Sourced entirely from a 1996 block with cuttings from the original 1940 Los Ninos—America’s oldest Cabernet Sauvignon block—this vineyard spans from 1,200 to 1,000 ft at a southwest-facing slope across from the Semillon. Despite its challenging old trellising and inconsistent irrigation, minimal intervention was key. Think “baked cherry pie”: saturated red fruit, lingering spice,
